About Us
The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is made up of six Schools and the Centre for Education. The Faculty’s mission is to deliver world leading education and research in the biomedical and health sciences. Our international reputation is well established: King’s is positioned 12th globally in the ‘Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health’ disciplinary table by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. The QS World University Rankings 2022 by Faculty position us 16th for Life Sciences and Medicine.
The Stores are part of the Faculty Office and provide supplies to office- and laboratory-based colleagues, in the Faculty of Life Sciences and other health faculties.
About the Role
Applications are invited for the position of Assistant Technician (Stores) to join the busy team in the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. The post reports to the Operations Officer (Stores) and will be based primarily at the Guy’s Campus although you will also be required to work at the Waterloo Campus (Franklin Wilkins Building), Denmark Hill and St Thomas’ as required.
The Stores provides a goods inwards/ delivery service for Health Faculties on the Guy’s campus and Franklin Wilkins Building. The post holder will check goods received, provide a delivery service and issue stock from the Guy’s and Franklin Wilkins Building. The team provides cover for each other and works on a rota.
Candidates should have:
- good literacy and numeracy skills
- strong interpersonal and communication skills
- a positive work ethic, working enthusiastically and effectively as part of a team.
Previous experience in a similar environment would be useful but not essential as training will be given.
This is a full-time post and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Minimum level 2 qualification, i.e., up to five GCSEs at grade C or grade 4 and above, or equivalent OR Previous work experience in a relevant post.
- Competent basic computer skills including Microsoft Office packages.
- Clear spoken and written communication skills along with good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to apply learnt techniques/skills to the work context.
- Flexible team worker, proactive and responsive.
- Solutions-focused self-starter, with good levels of concentration, precision and accuracy, who finds practical solutions to every-day problems.
- Experience of working in a customer service role, providing professional support via a variety of methods including face to face, email, phone and MS Teams.
- Ability to build working relationships and form a network of contacts to provide support and share best practice.
Desirable criteria
- Manual handling training.
- Basic Health & Safety awareness.
- Working in Stores and issuing stock.
- Receiving goods inwards.
