  • Opportunity to support the delivery of year one of the Sydney Medical School Doctor of Medicine Program in Dubbo, NSW
  • Base Salary $122.830 - $145,858 + 17% superannuation + some relocation expense where applicable

About the opportunity

The Sydney Medical Program (SMP) is a graduate entry medicine course (MD) with an annual intake of approximately 300 students. Sydney Medical School received Australian Medical Council (AMC) accreditation to implement a major revision to their four year medical program (MD2020). In 2021 the Dubbo Stream of the MD2020 was also accredited by the AMC to deliver the end-to-end program at the School of Rural Health for 24 local students as part of the Murray Darling Medical School Network. The first cohort of 24 students commenced in Dubbo in 2022, giving preference to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander candidates, those of rural origin, and those of lower socio-economic status. The MD curriculum integrates preclinical sciences with clinical sciences, clinical skills, population health, ethics, medical law and professionalism being taught in parallel with preclinical sciences.

Year 1 comprises a foundational block that includes an introduction to infection and immunity, and system-based blocks: Foundations, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Urinary, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, and Neurosciences.

The metropolitan and Dubbo streams share teaching methods, including a comprehensive set of online lecture modules and locally delivered practical classes and revision sessions. The delivery of the Anatomy curriculum in Sydney retains the use of human cadaver prosections, whereas only high-fidelity models and sophisticated visual technology are used in Dubbo.

The School of Rural Health is looking for an education focused Lecturer to join their highly expert team. In your role, you will live in or around Dubbo, and are expected to make significant contributions to teaching (in Physiology, Pharmacology and Anatomy) and learning within the school with the majority of your contribution to education (up to 70 or 80%).

It is an opportune time to make a lifestyle change and join Dubbo's thriving rural community. Dubbo, NSW is a vibrant regional centre that offers the benefits of space and a relatively laid-back lifestyle with the amenities of a major city. Home of the Aboriginal people of the Wiradjuri Nation, Dubbo connects and services a broad catchment population of 120,000 people in the Orana Region and has daily flights to a number of regional and metropolitan centres. Click on the link to see more about Dubbo https://www.dubbo.com.au/live. A relocation allowance will be available to the successful candidate.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Deliver teaching in the biomedical sciences, primarily in Physiology, Pharmacology, and Anatomy
  • creatively and effectively design and deliver high quality dry anatomy lab practical classes using plastic models and virtual resources.
