Department: Geography
Vacancy ID: 032281
Closing Date: 01-Jan-2025
We are seeking a Post Doctoral Researcher to work on an Irish Research Council funded project (HoStIr: Holocene Storminess in Ireland). The response of atmospheric circulation to warming is one of the least certain aspects of climate science, due in part to a spread between model simulations of the storm track and uncertainty about the key drivers of change. The HoStIr project (Figure 1) seeks to test new proxies for past sea spray deposition to coastal peatlands (Strand 1; S1) and then use these to develop multi-millennial records of past storminess for western Ireland (S2). Strand 3, led by the advertised postdoctoral researcher, will use the developed storminess records to conduct a data-model comparison of storminess in Ireland during the mid-Holocene and last millennium, using PMIP4-CMIP6 simulations.
