The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized public comprehensive university in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The Department of Arts and Design in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites qualified Interdisciplinary Researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Design from around the world for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Research in Artificial Intelligence and Design. The newly formed Department of Arts and Design at the University of Macau consists of a team of prestigious art historians, practicing artists, as well as designers and design theorists, and hence emphasizes equally on academic research, artistic creation and design innovation. In line with Macao's special position in the world, the department encourages faculty members to engage in active artistic, design and academic pursuits that cut across the boundaries between the traditional and the contemporary, between China and the world, as well as between theory and practice.

Qualifications

  1. An Interdisciplinary Researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Design with significant reputation;
  2. Doctoral degree in Design or related areas, with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence;
  3. A good record of exhibitions and awards;
  4. Experience in teaching and supervising doctoral and master’s students is preferred; 5. Proficiency in English. Preference will be given to those with theoretical, critical, interdisciplinary academic research capacity, and significant industry achievements.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty as early as June 2025.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approx. USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
