Assistant Professor in Geography (23241169)

The Department of Geography under the Academy of Geography, Sociology and International Studies offers a vibrant and collegial academic environment for research and teaching, including a team of about 12 academic/teaching colleagues from various cultural backgrounds and over 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Department of Geography places strong emphasis on high-quality and impactful research, particularly on research that informs social and environmental policies and advances knowledge in and beyond the discipline.

The Department of Geography is now recruiting Assistant Professor in Smart, Resilient and Sustainable Cities. Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Geography or a cognate discipline with a strong research background and a specialisation in:

  1. Remote sensing, smart sensing and monitoring, geospatial analytics, AI, spatial big data analytics, smart buildings, intelligent transport systems; or 
  2. Urban governance and policy, environmental politics, geopolitics, social justice, carbon management, disaster management, environmental health. 

They should have a track record of high-quality publications. Success in securing competitive research funding would be considered an asset. The appointee is expected to teach in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as supervise student research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two to three years, commencing August 2025. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
