The Computational Drug Discovery and Design Group (COMP3D, https://comp3d.univie.ac.at/) at the Faculty of Life Sciences develops computer-based methods, particularly machine learning techniques, for predicting the biological, medical, and toxicological properties of active substances. With these new technologies, effective and safe drugs can be developed faster, more efficiently, and more sustainably.
Your personal sphere of influence:
As an IT technician, you will work as part of an international team on the further development and maintenance of the group's internal IT and HPC infrastructure, the development, support, and maintenance of software tools and web services, and support the research group in their work. We offer a diverse and interdisciplinary working environment with room for your own ideas. We place great value on respectful interaction and self-reliant working style, where you can develop your personal interests. You will have flexible working hours and can work remotely at times, in consultation with your supervisor. The position is available for immediate filling, also as a part-time-position if desired. The position is initally limited to 1 year and can be made permanent afterwards.
Your future tasks:
Adapted to your personal profile and employment (full-time or part-time), you will work in several of the following areas:
- Procurement and replenishment of hardware and software
- Setup and maintenance of a local High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure with connection to the national HPC clusters
- Installation and support of PC workplaces
- Software and web service development
- Network administration
- Support of current research activities
- Maintenance of the internet presence
Additionally, tasks in the area of IT infrastructure at the shared location of the Faculty of Life Sciences are to be taken on.
This is part of your personality:
- Completion of a general or vocational higher school
- Experience in system administration, support, development, management
- Very good knowledge of Linux
- Solid programming skills in Python. Knowledge of other programming languages such as JavaScript is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of web programming for maintenance and further development.
- Good German and English skills, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work in a structured, goal-oriented, and independent manner.
- Teamwork skills and interest in collaborating with a research group.
- Knowledge in chemistry and machine learning is an advantage.
