About us

Applications are invited for a clinical research fellow in Cardiac PET to undertake a cutting-edge project used Total Body PET (Positron Emission Tomography) under the supervision of Dr Sohaib Nazir and Professor Gary Cook within the Department of Cardiovascular Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King’s College London.  

KCL was awarded one of the UK’s two £13 Total Body PET awards from the Medical Research Council and this funded project represents the first cardiac project using this nascent technology to understand the pathophysiology in heart failure and ischaemic heart disease.

About the role

Applicants should be medically qualified with full GMC registration with license to practice in the UK.  The post is suitable for Specialty Trainees in Cardiology or Nuclear Medicine who intend to specialise in the cardiac imaging sub-specialty or who have already commenced training in general cardiology and wish to gain more sub-specialty experience in Cardiac PET, by taking an Out-Of-Programme Experience (OOPE) from their current training programmes.  The ideal candidate would be looking for sub-speciality experience in cardiac PET imaging to further their medical career and lead high impact international research in this new field.

The candidate should have excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to manage projects, work to deadlines and collaborate with clinical teams.  Prior research experience and peer-reviewed publications are highly desirable.   


This is a full time post (40 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 3 years (03.02.25 - 02.02.28).

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria 

  1. MBBS or equivalent
  2. MRCP or equivalent
  3. GMC registered
  4. Valid ALS Qualification
  5. Clinical experience in care of cardiac patients
  6. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  7. Proven knowledge of ICH GCP guidelines
  8. Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit/quality, excellent organisational/time management skills and the ability to work to clinical and scientific deadlines

Desirable criteria

  1. Current post in a higher specialist training or post CCT
  2. Experience in cardiovascular imaging including attendance at courses and experience of preparing IRAS/REC documentation
  3. Oral presentations at conferences
  4. Publication of original manuscripts in journals
