- Base Salary $109,301 - $116,679 (Level A) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
Many cyberphysical systems are operated using wireless communications and rely upon interactions between technology and humans. Typical examples include uncrewed vehicles, robotic systems and critical infrastructure. Systems of this kind crucially use wireless networks to transmit sensor and actuator signals, and interact with humans at various integration levels. The fact that wireless communications are unreliable and human behaviour is difficult to predict raises significant challenges for the design of cyberphysical systems.
The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Control of Cyberphysical and Human Systems to work on fundamental research questions at the intersection of systems control, machine learning and control-oriented modeling of human behaviour. The successful candidate will research and develop optimisation-based control methods that jointly address dynamic uncertainties from communication and human components.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- plan and carry out cutting edge research that advances the state of the art in this area
- prepare and publish research outcomes in top level refereed journals and conferences
- present research outcomes at conferences and workshops
- assist in the preparation of research grant proposals
- on occasions, lead the creation of technology demonstrators for assessing and validating research
- assist with supervision of honours and postgraduate students.
About you
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Control of Cyberphysical and Human Systems who has:
- completed a PhD at highly ranked University within the last five years in a relevant discipline, preferably Engineering or Mathematics
- experience and research track record in systems control, machine learning for dynamical systems,
and/ or cyberphysical human systems - a demonstrated track record of publishing in top-quality journals and conferences
- well-developed written and spoken communication skills, and interpersonal skills
- demonstrated programming experience using Matlab or Python.
Please note all candidates are required to provide a full list of publications in their cover letter and/or CV.
Pre-employment checks
Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
