About the Level A Role (Associate Lecturer)
The Associate Lecturer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health will be responsible for contributing to the preparation and delivery of the College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health topics using innovations in teaching practices and technologies within the cultural context, with support and guidance from a more senior academic.
About You
To excel in this role, you will showcase:
- Satisfactory completion of 4 years tertiary study or equivalent qualifications and experience in the area of teaching, Aboriginal Health
- Demonstrated experience in communicating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, key stakeholders, and their representatives to achieve positive outcomes
- Familiarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues and an understanding of the social determinants of health as they impact Indigenous Australians
- Tertiary qualifications in Education (Desirable).
About the Level B Role (Lecturer)
The Lecturer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health will be a key team member of the academic staff of the Darwin office of the Flinders Northern Territory in the College of Medicine and Public Health. The incumbent will be responsible for the revision, development and teaching of Indigenous curriculum across Flinders Northern Territory. The Lecturer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health will be responsible for making an independent contribution to educational scholarship using innovations in teaching practices and technologies to deliver excellence in teaching, with emphasis on Indigenous health issues, cultural safety, primary health care and population health.
About You
To be successful in this role you will exhibit:
- Completion of a PhD, or equivalent qualification
- Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and programs (desirable)
- Formal qualifications or experience in Indigenous health, or health professional, teaching and curriculum development (desirable)
- Established relationships with Indigenous communities, groups and organisations.
About the Level C Role (Senior Lecturer)
The Senior Lecturer will provide leadership in delivering excellence in teaching and learning across the topics and courses in Rural and Remote Health, College of Medicine and Public Health. The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for making a significant and wide-ranging contribution to leadership in teaching and scholarship of teaching using innovations in teaching practices and technologies to deliver excellence in teaching with emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, cultural safety, primary health care and population health across Flinders Northern Territory. They will be expected to draw upon their significant and senior roles in clinical practice to develop industry partnerships for work integrated learning, deliver innovate placement models and provide contemporary and high-quality placement education, both through clinical skills training, simulation and service provision. The Senior Lecturer will also have a key leadership role in service to the College and/or University.
About You
To thrive in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Completion of a PhD, or equivalent qualification
- Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and hold and maintain a current membership with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Relevant and extensive contemporary clinical experience.
- Significant and sustained evidence of excellence in teaching performance at a tertiary level, inclusive of simulation and/or clinical setting.
- Significant and sustained evidence of development, delivery and evaluation of innovative teaching and learning strategies both in the classroom and in clinical education.

About Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT
At Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT, our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory. We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School, and the University Department of Rural Health.
Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce. All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.
Prescribed Conditions for Employment
- A valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
- Northern Territory Government legislation (the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007) now requires all individuals in child related employment or whose duties involve, or are likely to involve, contact with a child, to hold a valid 'Working with Children Clearance' (Ochre Card). This position involves child related work and is assessed as requiring a Working with Children Clearance/Ochre Card.
- Confirmation of Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander (COA) descent which is satisfactory to the University is a requirement of this position.
