The School of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton is looking for a highly experienced cardiac physiologist with expertise and leadership in echocardiography to join our motivated and innovative teaching team at the University of Southampton. We wish to enhance our established teaching programmes with the appointment of a Senior Teaching Fellow in Cardiac Physiology (0.2 FTE permanent contract) to teach in their own specialist area of cardiac physiology and provide generic teaching in non-invasive cardiology. Our BSc (Hons) Cardiac Physiology course continues to have very high student satisfaction and 100% employment within the NHS. You will join an established, highly-skilled and friendly teaching team.

There will be opportunities to contribute to ongoing curriculum review, ensuring that our programmes produce future leaders in cardiac physiology, health care, health research and health education. This is a stimulating position that offers the opportunity to be involved in cross-disciplinary research within the School of Health Sciences, and throughout the University of Southampton.

You will have a range of cardiac physiology experience, be a highly experienced cardiac physiologist /echocardiographer educator and be able to bring innovative teaching methods and contemporary practice-based experience to our well-established curriculum. You will be expected to support the teaching of cardiac physiology and echocardiography and a range of teaching and learning experiences.

The job

As part of the Cardiac Physiology teaching team, you will be required to have responsibility for module support of cardiac physiology education including session delivery, marking, and examining. Other tasks include;

  • contributing to the design and delivery of the programme’s curriculum
  • clinical visiting and placement support
  • student support and progression
  • quality monitoring and enhancement activities across Faculty and University teams

You will be joining a vibrant academic community committed to extending understanding in research, education, and practice to create integrated educational programmes unique to the Faculty and make a positive difference to local and global health. You will receive support and line management from the Programme Manager.

The skills/experience needed

  • RCCP/AHCS registration
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level in cardiac physiology including echocardiography with a formal teaching qualification(s).
  • Pedagogic or practitioner research experience at BSc level as a minimum.
  • Clinical expertise and leadership in cardiac physiology and echocardiography
