ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting a Senior Research Assistant with expertise in qualitative research methods to work on a study (STROKE-TWIN) recently funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR). The study aims to reduce life-altering differences in emergency stroke care by identifying and understanding hospital-level variations in the use and speed of proven medical (thrombolysis) and mechanical (thrombectomy) clot-removing treatments. This is a collaboration between several universities and NHS partners and provides a unique opportunity to conduct qualitative research at the intersection between health technology and clinical practice on a national level. Specifically, we are looking to appoint a qualitative researcher with experience of using semi-structured interviews and focus groups or workshops.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 therefore the successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

ABOUT THE TEAM

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing and vibrant team of applied health service researchers at Northumbria University. Northumbria University was recently awarded Times Higher Education 2022 and The Times and The Sunday Times Modern University of the Year 2025. Within this post, you will be provided support to work creatively across disciplines and pursue your interests.

ABOUT YOU

Ideally, you should have a strong understanding of implementation challenges in the healthcare system and underlying theories related to implementation and/or quality improvement. To be eligible for this post you will have a PhD (or be near to completion) in a subject relevant to health and/or social care, or social sciences, or equivalent experience of conducting qualitative research.

Further information about the requirements of the role is available in the person specification

If you have any informal enquiries, please contact Dr Jason Scott: jason.scott@northumbria.ac.uk.

This post is available from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2027.
