The HiLIFE - Institute of Biotechnology, Johanna Syrjänen laboratory group invites applications for a 

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN 

Our lab works on understanding the molecular basis for cellular communication and signaling. We use a multidisciplinary approach by combining structural biology, biochemistry, and biophysics techniques to address fundamental questions in this field.

The successful applicant will support the projects in the group both scientifically and on the lab management side. 

About the position

We are seeking a candidate with molecular biology skills (PCR, restriction enzyme cloning). The position may also include construct screening for protein expression using bacterial, mammalian and insect cell lines as well as bacmid preparation; training will be provided if necessary. 

Responsibilities will also include ordering and contacting vendors of consumables and equipment, laboratory organization. The candidate should have excellent communication skills in English. Finnish skills are considered as an advantage. Strong interpersonal skills are valued. 

The candidate should have a degree in a life sciences field (e.g molecular biology or biochemistry). The ability to work both independently and is a team is valued, as is attention to detail. 

The position is for 3 years starting in early 2025 or as agreed. A trial period of 6 months will be applied, and the salary will be based on the university salary system, taking into account the applicant's level of skills, knowledge, and abilities.
