About the role

This is a part time Research Assistant position investigating how accurately pose estimation models can determine arm kinematics in stroke survivors. The post is located within the Centre for Human and Applied Physiological Sciences, within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London.

The successful applicant will be expected to be proficient at deploying pose estimation models. You will measure arm biomechanics of stroke survivors and determine their accuracy. The post holder will be responsible for conducting all testing, analysing data and write up of the studies. The successful candidate should have a background in computer vision and additional knowledge of biomechanics is desirable. They should be highly competent in Python, with experience in MATLAB and data analysis libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, pandas), while proficiency in C++ is desirable.

The position will be supervised by Dr Ulrike Hammerbeck, Dr Letizia Gionfrida and Dr Irene Di Giulio.  The work will be conducted on the Guy’s Campus of King’s College London.

This is a part time post (17.5 hours per week), and you will be offered a 1-year fixed term contract starting 3 March 2025 until 2 March 2026. This post is fully based on the campus.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. A MSc (or equivalent) in Computer Science, AI, bioengineering or a related field
2. Experience of using computer vision in research projects
3. An understanding of the research process performed in accordance with the ethical principles of working with humans
4. Proven ability to work as part of a team
5. Excellent communication skills when dealing with participants
6. Experience in data analysis using Matlab/Python or equivalent software
7. Able to work independently under own supervision
8. Experience of report/journal article writing

Desirable criteria

1. Experience using biomechanics
2. Experience of research working with individuals with neurological disease
3. Experience of research related to pose estimation models
