Description
The S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group in the Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking to recruit a research assistant to contribute to research focused on monitoring, evaluating, operating, and making informed decisions about built infrastructure. The research specifically targets advancements in robot autonomy and cyber-physical systems, such as digital twins, to enhance the resilience and flexibility of infrastructure during the construction and operation and maintenance (O&M) phases. Objectives include, but are not limited to, instrumenting the built environment with IoT sensors to support decision-making and developing and testing platforms that enable visualization and interaction with digital twins. The work will be validated through simulations and real-world applications or case studies.

The S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group is a dynamic and interdisciplinary research group led by Prof. Borja García de Soto. The core topics of the S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group are Sustainable and resilient construction, Modularization and lean construction, Artificial intelligence, Robotic systems and automation, Technology integration and information modeling.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. Experience developing and working with cyber-physical systems / digital twins and knowledge of simulation platforms is required. In addition, ideal candidates should have experience with the development of AI models and ML techniques, and knowledge and experience with game engines such as Unity or Unreal. Experience in the areas of construction management and building information modeling (BIM) will be an advantage. Excellent communication skills in English, ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and scientific creativity are essential.
