The School of Education at Leuphana University Lüneburg invites applications for the following full professorship:

Primary School Pedagogy (W2/W3)

Your research activities focus on empirically oriented research on schools, teaching and professionalisation. You will represent primary school pedagogy in its full range including primary school pedagogical and didactic research and teaching. You participate in and contribute to national and international specialist discussions at a high level. 

You have published in the field of primary education, preferably on an international scale, and have successfully acquired third-party funding independently. Additionally, experience in interdisciplinary research projects is required. Cooperation within the scientific community and international networking are essential. You are willing to engage in international relationships to advance the subject area. You must have relevant teaching experience and proven methodological skills in the field of primary school research to offer students appropriate opportunities for research-oriented studies.

For your future work as a professor at Leuphana, you preferably bring experience in theoretical preparation, follow-up, and supervision of students during their school internships. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues in subjects, subject didactics, psychology, and social pedagogy. Your responsibilities will include actively promoting the establishment and expansion of school contacts, as well as cooperation with second-phase trainers and primary school teachers in the teaching profession. You share the idea of the university as an educational community and utilise the numerous opportunities for academic collaboration within the Faculty of Education, the wider university, and beyond. Additionally, it is expected that you will actively participate in academic self-administration.

You have demonstrated your ability to advance the development of teaching structures at Leuphana by designing and implementing new forms of teaching and learning, such as video and online-based reflection and feedback formats. In the areas under the responsibility of the professorship, you will contribute to the development and consolidation of existing activities for knowledge transfer and further training. Ideally youhave experience in establishing and maintaining networks with elementary schools, study seminars, further training providers, and comparable primary education institutions abroad. In addition, you should provide evidence that you have teaching experience or suitable pedagogical experience or experience in empirical research corresponding to the tasks of the professorship.

You have an excellent command of the English language and are capable of teaching courses in English. If you do not speak German, you are willing to learn it within a reasonable period.

Formal requirements are based on § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG) and include

  • a university degree in Teacher training (teaching degree with 1st and preferably also 2nd state examination), educational science, sociology, psychology or a comparable degree;
  • your ability to engage in independent academic research as demonstrated by the outstanding quality of your dissertation in one of the above-mentioned fields;
  • additional academic achievements obtained i.e. in the course of being an assistant professor, during your postdoctoral lecture qualification (German: Habilitation) or other achievements recognized as being equivalent to a postdoctoral qualification;
  • your aptitude for teaching based on experience and the application of innovative teaching methods.
