The Riddet Institute is a world-best research centre in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders. The Institute integrates partner organisations (Massey University (host), Auckland and Otago Universities, AgResearch and Plant and Food Research) and disciplines, leading a "NZ Inc" approach to food research, and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food industry.
Located in Palmerston North, we are seeking a high-achieving, full-time (37.5h p/w) Research Officer to work on a Riddet Institute Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) funded project in the field of precision fermentation and alternative proteins, including optimisation of strains and fermentation conditions, development of biomass recovery processes and scale-up.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Food Biotechnology or related disciplines with demonstrated expertise in fermentation/precision fermentation of heterotrophic microbes (microalgae, yeast, fungi, or bacteria). Knowledge of metabolic engineering for microbial strain improvement is desirable. They will also demonstrate effective communication and problem-solving techniques, as well as high motivation and enthusiasm to work with an interdisciplinary team in food biotechnology/sciences.
Appointable within the Research Officer range ($81,172 - $103,595 NZD), reflective of experience and publication, for a fixed-term period of four years to cover specific project deliverables in the current CoRE research programme which finishes in 2028.
