Description
The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, UAE is inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate position in the areas of Protein Biochemistry and Enzymology. The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Wael Rabeh (https://www.rabehlab.com/) on the study of enzymes’ structures and functions in the area of cancer metabolism and viral infectious diseases. Applicants must have a strong background in protein biochemistry including experience in protein expression and purification. The lab is well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for spectroscopy, thermodynamic and kinetic characterization of proteins’ thermal and chemical unfolding, and mass-spectroscopy for studying protein dynamics.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related field of study. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. Experience in mass spectroscopy or enzymology is desirable. Priority given to candidates with a background in the following areas of expertise:
Protein expression and purification (essential): The candidate must have prior hands-on experience in protein expression in E. coli or other cell lines and purification using affinity and size exclusion chromatography. Experience using FPLC in protein purification is a plus.
Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:
- Enzymology: mechanistic characterization of enzymes using initial velocity and enzyme inhibition kinetics.
- Hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) mass spectrometry (MS) application in the study of enzyme dynamics and protein structural characterization.
- Spectroscopy including UV-Vis, fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy.
- Calorimetry including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).
The appointment is for a one-year, renewable term, starting on August 1st, 2024. The employment terms are competitive and include a tax-free salary plus housing and educational subsidies and health and dental insurance for the Postdoctoral Associate and their dependents. In addition, the candidate will receive travel and transportation allowances and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
