About the role:

Would you like to play a key role in supporting the University as part of our 'Ask HR' team, providing advice and guidance on a variety of HR topics?

If you are a confident and self-motivated individual who would like to join a responsive and effective HR team, we would like to hear from you.

You will be able to demonstrate exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, with a good eye for detail. You will need to be proactive with a flexible approach and have the ability to work with changing priorities during periods of pressured workload. Naturally, you will be able to build and maintain relationships with a variety of people across the University.

The role is varied, as you will be the first line of contact for both internal and external customers contacting HR. We offer telephone, email and in-person support to customers using a range of IT systems (such as the central HR database and a ticketing system).

The expected hours of work for this role are full time or part time (0.8FTE or above). Work patterns to include 4 or 5 full days per week (9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday).

The typical starting salary for this role will be £26,642 (spinal point 17 on the University Level 1-6 pay scale), unless you have significant experience in a similar role. Staff increment one spinal point each year, up to the top of the Level.

Please see the job description below for further details. When appointed, your job title will be 'AskHR Officer'.

What we offer:

Your main work location will be Highfield Campus, however, our HR department works across both Highfield Campus and One Guildhall Square. Both offices have easy access to public transport, restaurants, coffee shops and a University gym.

There is a team rota in place to cover the in-person service on Highfield Campus. The in-person service requires you to attend the office regularly (approximately 2-3 times per week and at other times when required). However, there is also the opportunity to work flexibly from home when not due in the office.

As part of our commitment to your well-being, we offer an occupational pension scheme and generous holidays (starting at 20 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays and 6 University closure days).  Staff also have access to our state-of-the-art on-campus sports, arts, and culture facilities and access to a number of University employee discount schemes. Further details on our staff benefits can be found here: Benefits explained | Human Resources | University of Southampton.

As part of the 'AskHR' team, you will be supporting the University to 'inspire excellence to achieve the remarkable and build an inclusive world'. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of the University community, where people are valued, and collegiality is key.

If you wish to discuss the role in more detail, please contact Sarah Foster (Ask HR Manager) on sa.foster@soton.ac.uk or 02380 595070.
