About the Role

The role has become vacant due to a retirement.

Depending on the background of the successful applicant, this appointment could be made as either an Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor or an Executive Director.

The Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Executive Director), Research Partnerships and Translation provides strategic oversight of the development of research partnerships, and paths to impact across the University. As a recognized research translation leader, in this position you will further develop the RMIT research and innovation ecosystem to ensure the university delivers immense benefits beyond the world of academia.

You would be responsible for leading the strategic growth agenda for RMIT's research partnering with industry, government and not-for-profit organisations. This would involve pursuing a diverse range of research translation pathways, one of which involves IP management and Commercialisation and will include new venture creation.

External benchmarking and trends will be used to inform the RMIT approach to further enhancing RMIT's ecosystem for supporting research partnerships and translation.

This position requires demonstrable excellence in research partnering and translation leadership, strong management and strategic planning experience, advanced negotiation skills, and the ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders across, all RMIT Schools, Colleges and Portfolios.

To be successful in this position, you will ideally bring:

  • Extensive leadership experience and excellence in research partnering, driving strategic growth, translation, including commercialisation and new venture creation. As well as a clear understanding of global trends and external environmental factors.
  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Track record of win-win deal closures that maintain relationships with partners.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement and monitor strategic plans in research partnerships, translation, IP management and commercialisation and new ventures to foster growth by driving agreed plans to successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated delivery of innovative, business-focused solutions, and possessing a high level of credibility and influence within the sector.
  • Demonstrated skill in communicating the strategy, and in engaging leaders and their teams, to achieve high standards of innovation and excellence.
  • Proven ability to develop, inform and implement research strategy relating to partnerships development, translation, including IP management commercialisation and new venture creation that leads to increased funding opportunities.
  • Proven ability to design and develop large-scale initiatives, involving multiple internal and external partners, to deliver profound impact for the benefit of the world beyond the academic community.
  • Deep experience in the successful development and maintenance of corporate and government networks and relationships both national and international.
  • Personal attributes that support the promotion of the values and distinctive profile of RMIT University.
