Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

This newly established role offers an opportunity to provide academic leadership, co-ordination and advocacy for teaching and learning across the School of Design. You will be pivotal to creating a cohesive School of Design from the existing Design programmes of study, taught in different parts of the University.

You will increase student numbers and research income; advance further the quality of teaching and research; develop and foster links with industry and other external stakeholders to enhance the impact and influence of our research and the opportunities for our students and staff. As a distinctive and forward-looking institution, our emphasis on bicultural approaches is a strand that runs through our research and education, and you will be expected proactively, to support initiatives in this area.

The appointment will be made at Professor level in the discipline of Creative Design and will be a continuing full-time position. The Head of School of Design role will be for a fixed term of three years with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.

You are an experienced academic, with a strong track record in research and teaching in Design programmes and successful experience in leading teams and initiatives. Your research and teaching will be credible, and you will be actively engaged in the worlds of scholarship and education.

As Head of School you will be a strong leader, with experience bringing people and teams together to deliver innovation and change, with an ability to think strategically about future directions; communicate collaboratively; and organise and deliver programmes of work effectively.

Initially the School of Design will sit within the Division of Engineering, Computing and Science, which comprises the schools of Engineering; Computing and Mathematical Sciences and Science. The schools in the Division offer quality academic programmes at undergraduate level, and a range of programmes from across both taught and research postgraduate. Our programmes are research-informed and delivered through high quality academic staff catering for domestic and international students.
