Associate Professor - Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the academic, research, and service missions of the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, supporting the UAE’s nuclear technology goals. Faculty members in this position will engage in high-quality teaching across Nuclear and broader Mechanical Engineering disciplines, lead research programs, and collaborate with the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center (ENTC) on projects that address nuclear safety, materials integrity, and radiation technology challenges.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses across both Nuclear Engineering and broader Mechanical Engineering disciplines, including courses such as Nuclear Materials and Aging Management, Nuclear Fuel Chemistry, and Radiation Science.
  • Revise and update curriculum content regularly to reflect the latest industry standards and research developments.
  • Mentor and supervise students in coursework and research activities, offering comprehensive support in thesis development, experimental design, and project execution.

Research Responsibilities

  • Establish a strong, independent research program that aligns with the university’s priorities and contributes to the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering department as well as ENTC’s objectives.
  • Collaborate on research with ENTC (http://www.ku.ac.ae/entc/), contributing to projects in nuclear safety, materials research, and radiation technology..
  • Secure external funding through competitive grants and build partnerships with national and international organizations in nuclear research.
  • Publish in high-impact journals and present research findings at prominent conferences, ensuring the research benefits the UAE’s nuclear power initiatives.

Service Responsibilities

  • Serve on departmental and university committees, contributing to curriculum development, faculty governance, and strategic initiatives.
  • Engage with the wider academic community through peer review, professional organizations, and outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with ENTC and external stakeholders to enhance the UAE’s research and development in nuclear technology, supporting projects with both local and international impact.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with significant expertise in Nuclear Materials and Chemistry or Radiation Science.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience relevant to the position, out of which at least 5 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor.
  • Proven record in securing competitive research funding, publishing in high-impact journals, and conducting impactful research in nuclear technology.
