Description

The Marine Biology Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi, under the supervision of Professor John Burt, invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Fish Ecophysiology. The successful candidate will research the acclimatory and adaptive mechanisms used by coral reef fishes to enable survival in the environmentally extreme Arabian Gulf, and utilize a nearby but more thermally benign Gulf of Oman as a comparative environment. Stressors of interest could include high, low and variable temperatures, hypoxia, hyper salinity and turbidity, among others. The successful candidate would tackle such topics through the application of Eco physiological techniques in both laboratory and field settings.

Applicants must have a PhD in Marine Biology, Physiology, Molecular Ecology, or a related field and an advanced SCUBA certification, with research-based diving experience. A strong background in experimental design and data analysis, with relevant experience in the processing of physiological datasets leading to first author publications. Evidence of applying integrative approaches to tackle pertinent ecophysiological questions. Experience working in non-traditional animal models. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A track record of first-author publications relevant to the position. Proficiency in lab techniques in fish physiology, molecular biology, and -omics.

For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Kelly Bradham at kelly.bradham@nyu.edu

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
