Within NIE, the Policy, Curriculum, and Leadership (PCL) Department leads in educational leadership, policy, and curriculum studies, impacting both theory and practice. The PCL Department invites qualified candidates who share our mission to apply for the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor (tenure-track) position in Educational Leadership. This position requires a deep understanding of educational leadership, encompassing a dynamic range of responsibilities that extend beyond traditional management of educational institutions. It involves fostering organizational development, enhancing leadership to improve teaching and learning, creating positive learning environments, and supporting professional development. Additionally, ethical leadership is essential for navigating the complexities of today’s educational landscape.
Requirements
Successful candidates must have:
- A PhD in educational leadership or related fields (such as, educational management, educational administration, leadership development or school effectiveness and improvement). The ideal candidate will have expertise in key areas of educational leadership, including leadership styles, organizational culture, leadership for instruction, change management, inclusivity, governance, organizational learning, and the mechanisms driving school improvement and transformation. (Applicants who are nearing completion of their doctoral studies will be considered but PhD must be in hand for the appointment);
- A strong research record in educational leadership, demonstrated by publications in high-ranking journals and presses, or, for early career scholars, a promising research and publication trajectory;
- A good teaching record with a positive impact on student learning across all levels, including both graduate and undergraduate courses, as well as in pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes;
- A proven record of service and a passion for making a positive impact in the field of education;
- Familiarity with the Singapore education system would be highly advantageous; and
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and technology skills, combined with a commitment to academic research, teaching excellence, and collegiality.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Contribute to teaching and course development at the pre-service, in-service, undergraduate, and graduate levels, particularly in programmes for school leaders;
- Provide individualized supervision to student teachers during their teaching practice, including classroom observations and feedback;
- Guide and supervise higher degree students in designing, conducting, and completing their research studies or projects;
- Plan, develop, and implement strategies for professional development;
- Develop a robust research agenda, secure competitive research grants, and publish research in reputable journals or other outlets customary in the field of educational leadership;
- Undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and contribute to service-related activities at the department or institution level;
- Develop and maintain strong professional networks with local and international researchers and practitioners in educational leadership; and
- Share teaching or research expertise with NIE colleagues through various learning and sharing platforms.
In addition, an Associate Professor (tenure-track) will be expected to:
- Lead key areas of research in educational leadership within the department;
- Mentor faculty members in the department;
- Supervise and provide mentorship to graduate students pursuing PhD and/or EdD degrees;
- Serve in NIE / NTU committees.

Shortlisted candidates will initially participate in an online interview. Those selected for the next stage will be invited to visit the NIE campus. During this visit, they will be required to deliver a job talk outlining their research and teaching interests, and to conduct a sample lesson in their area of expertise for our students in NIE.
