About the Role
The position will be based at the University of Melbourne Parkville campus, working under the supervision of Prof Nicole Bell, Dr Peter Cox, A/Prof Matthew Dolan and Prof Raymond Volkas. The successful candidate will lead work on theoretical particle and astroparticle physics, with a particular focus on dark matter phenomenology. Collaboration with theorists and experimentalists across the ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics will be encouraged. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting internationally competitive research with members of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics
- Actively participating in research seminars and international conferences to disseminate research findings as opportunities arise
- Demonstrating initiative and conducting independent research
Who We Are Looking For
Our ideal candidate demonstrates a strong research aptitude with a sound publication record, aligning with experience. They demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication and thrive in multi-disciplinary teams. The ability to independently complete research projects with limited supervision is essential.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of theoretical particle or astroparticle physics
- Research experience in theoretical particle or astroparticle physics, with a strong interest in dark matter phenomenology
- Strong evidence of ability and desire to build an academic research career trajectory

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. The ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics is a national collaboration of physicists from across Australia, in partnership with key international researchers and institutions, to pursue the discovery and understanding of the nature of Dark Matter.

The University of Melbourne's School of Physics is one of Australia's leading Physics Schools. It has achieved this status through the high quality of its research and teaching programs. The School offers a wide range of physics subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and performs research in the following areas: Astrophysics, Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Experimental Particle Physics, Materials Science, Physical Biosciences, Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics and Theoretical Particle Physics.
The School also plays a major role in the Australian Synchrotron research program, and in the development of the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory.
Currently some 30 academics, 51 research-only staff, more than 95 postgraduate students and 72 associates supported by 23 professional staff make up the School of Physics. The School is located in the David Caro building on the Swanston Street boundary of the University campus.
