We are seeking an experienced individual to take up the post of Performing Arts Technician (Lighting) in the technical team, within the Operations and Events Department at GSA.

The Performing Arts Technician (Lighting) provides technical expertise to support the delivery of all programmes and the development and application of appropriate skills and capabilities, in order to assist the realisation of GSA theatre productions, other public arts events, research events, student society events, open days, conferences, lectures and meetings. The team also provides equipment, support, mentoring and maintenance, ensuring a high standard for all GSA activities. Providing an excellent student experience is central to all we do.

About you

The successful candidate will have experience of working with in a lighting department on varied live productions, and preferably have experience of working in a Conservatoire or other Higher Education setting. You will be an experienced lighting technician with good administrative, pastoral and inter-personal skills and knowledge of current practices and techniques in professional theatre and entertainment production. You will be well organised, taking responsibility for supervising, demonstrating and mentoring students and freelance staff, managing and repairing equipment and the lighting equipment budget. You will have up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and a commitment to promoting safe working and inclusive practices.

As a new colleague at GSA you will join a thriving HE theatre community. We are actively committed to looking for all kinds of talent to build a diverse staff team at the GSA. We understand creating and maintaining a work environment in which all social groups are represented and moreover, feel safe and respected, is something we must work at. We do not take this for granted. We see anti-racism and anti-discrimination more broadly as a life-long commitment. We are working towards removing all barriers that staff, applicants and students may experience. Steps taken include having gender-balanced and racially diverse panels, undertaking anti-racism training and unconscious bias training and considering all candidates against a clear, realistic and well-defined person specification.
