About Rock Art Australia (RAA)
RAA is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to researching and protecting Kimberley rock art by bringing science and Aboriginal cultural knowledge together. RAA promotes the study of rock art and its context to understand the history of Australia and its significance in the global narrative of human origins. Founded in 1988, RAA has been funding academic research in the Kimberley with leading scientists from multiple universities since 2007.
About the Centre for Rock Art Research and Management
The Centre for Rock Art Research and Management (CRAR+M) is a UWA centre of research excellence for collaborative, co-designed and multidisciplinary research into rock art, with an emphasis on Western Australia. CRAR+M also aspires to be a leader in rock art conservation and management through research excellence and by advocacy for the priceless heritage values of the State and nation’s rock art estate.
CRAR+M feeds into The UWA ‘2030 Strategy’ through trusted, transformative, and cross-disciplinary research and engagement. We are a vibrant, sustainable, and connected Centre that welcomes our partners and communities to co-design projects that combine Indigenous and western knowledge systems to better understand and protect rock art and promote it at local, State, national and international levels
About the opportunity
As the Ian Potter Chair in Rock Art at The University of Western Australia, you will create and drive ambitious research in Kimberley rock art and is expected to utilise and translate their research to maximise public impact and to affect policy change in the area of Indigenous heritage management and conservation.
You will build and maintain relationships, develop partnerships and secure permissions with Aboriginal Corporations and Traditional Owners in the Kimberley to co-develop and co-deliver research and outreach programs based on Indigenous related best practice and ethical research codes, guidelines and standards.
