POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW IN CHINESE STUDIES (1 Year Fellowship)
The Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is inviting applications for up to 3 fully funded postdoctoral fellows for 1 year for the Academic Year 2025-26. Postdoctoral fellows are chosen from a competitive selection process. They will spend one year with the department working on research for a book manuscript or articles. In addition, they are expected to deliver a seminar about their research during their fellowship and teach one course for the department.
We welcome applications from junior scholars who have research interests in any of the following areas:
- Chinese Literature
- Chinese Media Studies
- Chinese History
- Chinese Linguistics
- Translation and Interpreting Studies, with a focus on Chinese-English and/or English-Chinese translation/interpreting
- Overseas Chinese Studies
- Chinese Philosophy
- Chinese Religion
A doctoral degree is required by one month prior to the start of the fellowship. Candidates must provide confirmation of successful completion of their terminal doctoral degree, in the form of a diploma or a certificate of completion from the degree-granting institution’s Registrar. Applicants may not be more than three years beyond the receipt of their doctoral degree at the start of the fellowship. Applicants should possess native-speaking, or near native-speaking, competence in both Mandarin and English.
The one-year fellowship period is tentatively from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, and the fellow is expected to reside in Singapore for the duration of the fellowship. The fellowship will provide a monthly stipend of S$7,000, subsidized university medical benefits, a one-off travel subsidy, and a housing allowance. In addition, up to $5,000 in research funding will be available to each fellow. The fellowship will be subject to all rules and regulations of NUS.

- Cover letter that briefly states your background, and a summary of your research;
- CV with a complete list of publications (including theses/dissertations);
- Research proposal for the year of the fellowship;
- Dissertation/Thesis abstract and table of contents, as well as two writing samples (academic paper or dissertation chapter);
- Proposed course outline for course to be offered at NUS and copies of student evaluations of previous courses taught (if any);
- Three letters of reference and one additional letter from the PhD supervisor (total of four letters, to be sent directly by each referee to the above email address)
