Research Assistant Professor in Tropical Cyclone Urban Risk Mitigation, Physics-Guided Machine Learning, Flexible Sensors, or Metamaterials and Smart Structures (Ref. 241104011)
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high international reputation in conducting world-class research for societal benefits and has well established partnerships with the industry and government agencies in Hong Kong and beyond. It currently has about 45 regular faculty members at Assistant Professor and above levels and 37 technical and administrative personnel, and aspires to be a world leader in both teaching and research in civil and environmental engineering. The Department is seeking a highly motivated and suitably qualified individual with research expertise in Tropical Cyclone Urban Risk Mitigation, Physics-Guided Machine Learning, Flexible Sensors, or Metamaterials and Smart Structures. The work will support the Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) project “INTACT: Intelligent Tropical-Storm-Resilient System for Coastal Cities”.
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, in the role of Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
(b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
(c) contribute to departmental service; and
(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a PhD degree in a related discipline;
(b) have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;
(c) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;
(d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and
(e) be proficient in written and spoken English.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
