About School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment
Our school offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Industrial Design, Architecture, Construction Management, and Engineering, integrating advanced academic knowledge with practical training. We conduct world-leading research in Sustainability and Resilience, Design & Digitalisation, and Industrialisation & Materials, supported by seven research groups and three research centres. Operating across three campuses, our programs are designed to harness the urban growth of Greater Western Sydney, providing a ‘living lab’ environment for students and researchers to engage with real-world challenges and innovations.
About the role
We are seeking a forward-thinking, dynamic, and innovative scholar to join our team as a Associate Professor in Industrial Design. This pivotal role involves leading all Industrial Design programs, fostering research and teaching connections with Architecture, and promoting multi-disciplinary collaboration across the school, including Construction Management, Engineering, and Urban Transformation. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chair of Architecture and Design and the DAP of Architecture and Industrial Design to enhance the program’s positioning, attract key staff and students, and drive the growth of Industrial Design research. Additionally, this role will play a crucial part in establishing an interdisciplinary Design research program that leverages the strategic potential of Western Sydney and aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The ideal candidate will make distinguished contributions to scholarship, research, and teaching, providing significant leadership within the School.
About You
The successful candidate will possess a PhD in Design or a related field, coupled with outstanding professional experience and highly regarded research in industrial and/or multi-disciplinary design fields. They will be an accomplished Industrial Designer with significant global achievements and a proven track record of providing professional leadership and advice. Experience in leading curriculum accreditation with relevant professional bodies is essential. The candidate will demonstrate leadership and innovation in contemporary curriculum design, development, delivery, and assessment, with evidence of teaching quality and successful supervision of Masters and PhD candidates. An internationally competitive research profile, evidenced by substantial research funding, high-quality scholarly publications, and impactful research outcomes, is required.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level D $202,792 to $222,734 p.a. (comprising Salary of $171, 829 to $188,873 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
