Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education invites applications for this exciting opportunity to provide academic leadership and mentoring in teaching, research, and service.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who will bring a research and scholarship record of sustained excellence and a recognized contribution to STEM Education, especially Mathematics Education, at a national and international level. The role offers the opportunity to bring professional and academic experience as part of a team dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision. You will maintain and develop original scholarship and research, as well as undertake professional, community, and iwi service activities in the STEM Education field.

Along with teaching, your well-defined programme of research will help advance research capacities, develop strategic cross and inter-disciplinary research initiatives, and engage with schools and other communities. You will have a record of academic leadership that includes mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and support for other academic staff in the pursuit of their academic objectives and the development of their professional careers.

The level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. Salary for an Associate Professor will be from $142,358 to $157,018 per year, and a Professor will be a minimum of $159,950 per year. In addition to a PhD qualification in a relevant field, you will have a passion for teaching our students, with experience in teaching STEM Education, especially in Mathematics Education, and extensive knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and pedagogy in primary and/or secondary schools.

You will also demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of how your research could enhance professional practice in education and the community. As a Senior Academic professional, you are expected to have a research and scholarship record of excellence at a national and international level, along with demonstrated excellence in teaching and successful postgraduate supervision experience.
