The Department of Chinese (https://www.LN.edu.hk/chi/) offers courses at both bachelor and postgraduate levels. The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree programme includes areas of classical, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, Chinese language and linguistics, comparative literature and literary theories, as well as media, news and creative writing. The programme emphasizes multi-perspective literary studies as well as creative writing and communicative skills.
The Department of Chinese will make a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in digital humanities and premodern/modern Chinese literature. The Department particularly wishes to hire a high-powered researcher who has a solid track record in grant writing and publishing in respectable venues.
Responsibilities
The appointee will teach mainly in the areas of premodern and modern literature and culture, with prominent digital humanities component, and are also expected to contribute to the Department’s various research and teaching initiatives, including the enhancement of its two major journals: Prism: Theory and Modern Chinese Literature published by Duke University Press and the Lingnan Journal of Chinese Studies 嶺南學報 published by Shanghai guji chubanshe.
Requirements
Candidates should (1) have a PhD degree in the relevant discipline; (2) have professional training and competence in digital humanities; (3) have relevant teaching experience and have published high quality journal articles on digital Chinese literary research.
Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of up to three years.
