Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University announces an open competition for the position:

Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics

Job description key points

The position is focused on both research and teaching. The candidates are expected to carry out research of excellent quality in the area of Bioinformatics and take responsibility for selected courses included in the Bioinformatics bachelor study program and the specialization “Computational Systems Biology” within the Bioinformatics master study program. In particular, the candidates should be able to prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials at the bachelor as well as master level in the following areas:

  • genome sequence analysis;
  • algorithms in bioinformatics;
  • biological data processing and visualisation;
  • computational systems biology;
  • Python programming.

The candidates should show a large amount of flexibility in teaching subjects that are not directly related to their particular areas of research. They are expected to supervise undergraduate as well as graduate students and attract research projects to fund their research activities.

The successful candidate must have

  • PhD work related to bioinformatics;
  • passion for problem-solving and a desire for continuous improvement in teaching skills;
  • excellent research background in bioinformatics;
  • flexibility in teaching subjects that are not directly related to candidate´s particular areas of research;
  • succesfully defended Master and Bachelor thesis supervised;
  • experience with consultancy of PhD students;
  • experience with research/development project team work;
  • experience from other countries than Czech & Slovak Republics (at least half a year) or proof of other extensive international experience (e.g., international project leadership);
  • standard academic proficiency in English (ability to communicate fluently in English in an international academic setting - both oral communication and writing/reading)(other language is an advantage);
  • dynamic, flexible personality, able to work well in interdisciplinary and international teams.

  • copy of diploma from the highest level of education (notarial certification not required);
  • cover letter explaining the candidate's motivation for the position;
  • information on previous university teaching experience (list of taught courses and list of supervised theses);
  • information on scientific activities
    • publications that meet a high standard of quality, such as those with notable impact factors or from reputable conferences, e.g., ranking at least B in the CORE portal;
    • research projects the candidate led or joined, etc.;
  • title and abstract of a lecture that can be presented as a part of the application process;
  • the names and contact details of three professional referees.
