About the Role 

As the Senior Lecturer in Social Work, you will be responsible for academic coordination of field education across the BSW, BSW(H) and MSW(GE). In addition to contributing to quality research endeavours, the incumbent will, under general supervision, provide leadership and contribute to the planning and delivery of topics, including development of teaching materials, delivery of lectures/tutorials or other innovative teaching and learning strategies. The Senior Lecturer in Social Work will also be involved in placement education ensuring integration of curriculum (practice skills), and continuous review and improvement according to the AASW standards.

Some of the key responsibilities of the position are:

  • Undertaking academic field education coordination for the Discipline, including but not limited to the administration of policies and procedures involving field education and related student case management.
  • Making a significant contribution to ethical, high quality and innovative research (field education and practice skills in social work) through activities such as scholarship, quality publication, external grant acquisition, mentoring and developing early career researchers and presentation that aligns with the College areas of research strength and focus.
  • Undertaking a lead role in inspiring and innovative teaching informed by approaches that enhance the student experience, such as e learning platforms.
  • Supporting students with academic and/or other challenges impeding their academic progress, specifically integrating Social Work practice skills into curriculum to ensure student success in Field Education.
  • In a leadership capacity assisting in College internal and external quality assurance and accreditation processes, by ensuring all placements meet Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards requirements for student learning outcomes.

About You 

To be successful in this role you will be an excellent and experienced tertiary teacher in Social Work, including responsibility of topic coordination and curriculum design. You have a track record of developing innovative teaching methods that enhance the student experience, as well as experience in the supervision of honours and higher degree students. You have a strong research background, particularly in the areas of College strength or in Social Work Innovation Research Living Space (SWIRLS). You have excellent oral and written communication skills and can build effective relationships with students and industry partners.

Some of the key position capabilities of the role include:

  • A minimum of five years (FTE) of post-qualifying practice experience.
  • Significant track record and demonstrated evidence of successful relevant teaching experience at tertiary level, including responsibility for topic coordination, course coordination and curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated experience and successful track record in supervision of honours and higher degree students to successful completion.
  • Demonstrated evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area aligned with research strengths in social work practice skills, including evidence of sustained high-quality publications and attraction of external competitive grants.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the nexus between teaching and learning, research, and scholarship.
  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership in the area of curriculum reviews and internal and external accreditation activities.
