The Thermal Energy Group within The School of Engineering works across multiple projects in partnership supported by Australian Renewable Energy Agency and the Heavy Industry Low-Carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC). This is an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in renewable energy systems and heavy industry decarbonisation.
About the Role:
Reactor Engineer
- This position requires a chemical/mechanical engineer or pyrometallurgist with strong interest in reactor design, to undertake a number of novel reactor design/build/test activities. Experience with pyrometallurgy, hydrogen, direct reduction ironmaking and/or high temperature industrial processes and materials would all be considered highly favourable.
- Experience with computer-aided design, hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies and/or engineering project management techniques will be considered favourably.
- A track-record of successfully establishing new experimental equipment in a university context and/or of working safely and methodically with hazardous equipment would be highly beneficial.
- Experience with practical implementations of data acquisition and control in the lab context would also be considered favourably.
- Experience in numerical modelling of reacting flows and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) would be considered beneficial.
- Position is supported with funding from ARENA project “De-risking large-scale Australian fine-ore hydrogen ironmaking”
