About the Role
Join the School for Mathematics and Statistics and Melbourne Integrative Genomics in a dynamic role as a Research Fellow, focusing on pioneering statistical method development for omics data integration.
The role, under the guidance of Prof Kim-Anh Lê Cao at the forefront of computational methods for high-throughput biological data (https://lecao-lab.science.unimelb.edu.au), involves combining statistical modelling, advanced computational techniques, and omics data integration to gain comprehensive insights into biological systems in health and disease.
You will innovate new computational and statistical methods, fostering campus-wide collaborations.

The role also includes teaching one subject per year aligned with your expertise and strong support for developing your research career path and directions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contribute towards the research effort of the team and to develop your research expertise with an increasing degree of autonomy.
- Under the guidance and support of Senior Academic staff conduct internationally competitive research, resulting in publications in high impact journals.
- Contribute to and publish academic papers and other scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne
- Actively participate in research seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings as opportunities arise.
- Contribute to the preparation, or where appropriate individual preparation of research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies as relevant.
Who We Are Looking For
You will have a strong research track record in statistical applications within the life sciences, complemented by a history of impactful publications. We value your ability to forge research partnerships nationally and internationally. Additionally, we seek someone passionate about teaching postgraduate courses in statistics, statistical genomics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or computational biology.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent research higher degree in statistics, or interdisciplinary computational statistics research in genomics or a related area.
- Strong computer programming skills in R and experience in software development.
- Experience in multivariate statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of mammalian molecular biology and genomics

Le Cao lab is part of Melbourne Integrative Genomics (MIG), which has been established in 2017 and is an initiative to strengthen the involvement of statisticians in the advances being made in genomics and computational biology. MIG is an interdisciplinary research centre for the application of maths/stats/computing techniques to genomic profiling data to help understand genotype-to-phenotype process in humans and other organisms.
