The Role

Expressions of Interest for suitably qualified casual academic staff are wanted to perform a range of teaching and associated duties, including undertaking tutorial classes and marking assessment tasks, in several undergraduate units within Bachelor of Psychology, Bachelor of Psychology (OUA) and Psychology (Honours) courses.

We are seeking tutors for the units listed in the form linked below (in the "To Apply" section). Please refer to the MQ handbook for more information on each unit (https://coursehandbook.mq.edu.au/search?q=PSYU for on campus/online units and https://coursehandbook.mq.edu.au/search?q=PSYX for OUA units). Tutors are generally expected to be familiar with the content area that the units cover. For many units listed, tutorial classes run either on campus or online (via zoom).

Most of the units listed run via a range of offerings:

  • Face-to-face offering: tutorial classes are held in person on Macquarie University campus
  • Online offering: tutorial classes are held online over zoom
  • OUA offering: no set classes, tutors facilitate online discussions, monitor asynchronous tutorial activities and offer regular drop-in sessions via Zoom
  • Marking-only: not scheduled class teaching, just marking student assessment items

General information

The expected duties of such opportunities include teaching, student consultation and marking assessments, and will be offered based on skills and experience. An information meeting which provides key information about the unit materials, assessment and processes will be offered to you by your Unit Coordinator.

Payment will be made in accordance with the MQ Academic Enterprise Agreement 2023.

It is anticipated that availability of casual work will increase from February - June 2025 (inclusive). Please note that submission of an expression of interest is not a guarantee of employment. All offers of employment are subject to relevant Faculty, Department, and HR requirements and processes.

We are also concurrently seeking tutors for our cognitive and brain sciences undergraduate units. If you are interested in registering your interest for these units as well, please see the advertisement on the Careers at Macquarie website.

About You

All interested tutors are encouraged to register their interest. Experience tutoring in previous offerings of these units or similar units, as well as having a background in psychology or cognitive science field will be looked upon favourably.
