The Department at the University of Vienna is the largest academic center covering all fields relating to the German language and German-language literatures. The core areas are Modern German Literature, Medieval German Language and Literature, Germanic Linguistic, German as a Foreign and Second Language, and German Teaching Methodology. In addition, the areas of Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Media Theory, Literary Theory, and Literature for Children and Young Adults are well established. More than 5000 students are enrolled.

Your personal sphere of play:

The position is situated in the discipline of german didactics. This position is limited to a duration of six years. 

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You build up an independent research profile in the field of german didactics.
  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies .
  • You publish internationally and give lectures.
  • You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Supervision of students
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in the field of German Studies or cognate disciplines
  • Research focus in the field of language didactics, literature didactics and media didactics German
  • Desired experience in teaching, esp. in teaching German (secondary school)
  • Outstanding dissertation
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
  • Didactic skills / experience in e-learning
  • IT user skills
  • High ability to express oneself in speaking and writing
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
