The Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, is focused on various areas of theoretical physics, such as quantum gravity and optics, astrophysics, and physics education. The current research topics in astrophysics include stellar astronomy, including variable stars and star clusters, and high energy astrophysics, including studies of active galactic nuclei (AGN), galaxies and clusters of galaxies, as well as the use of nano- and small-satellites for monitoring the energetic transient sky. Members of the department are responsible for leading the science team of QUVIK, an approved Czech national UV space telescope mission and is involved in several nano-satellite projects. Job Description
Key Duties:
The Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics in the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, is looking for a highly motivated and productive Assistant professor (1 FTE) in the field of astrophysics. We are looking for a full-time Assistant Professor with the ambition to complete the habilitation procedure in the near future, holding a prestigious national or international grant to build up and lead a research team within the department. The successful candidate is expected to carry out an independent research program, teach in Czech (or Slovak) and English, and supervise theses written in Czech (or Slovak) and English.
Skills and Qualifications
The applicant must have:
- A PhD Degree in Astrophysics/Physics
- Experience with independent research in the field of astrophysics sufficient for attaining habilitation (associate professorship) in the near future.
- Significant international experience
- Good communication skills (oral and written) in English

- Hold a grant that allows the applicant to build up and lead a research team within the department
