Are you someone who is practical, enjoys working with people and loves variety? We have a great opportunity to join our School of Veterinary Medicine, based within the University of Surrey, in our state-of-the art teaching and research facilities.

The School of Veterinary Medicine is a truly inspirational and fascinating environment to work in. Delivering teaching to over 750 undergraduate students training to be the veterinary professionals of the future. The research of our academic colleagues focuses on ‘One Health, One Medicine’ and understanding the factors which impact the health of both animals and humans. With investment of over £40m, our facilities and those of the wider University present a wonderful backdrop for the right person to contribute to wider society and develop their skills and career.

The role

You’ll become a key team member, working as part of a motivated team with the opportunity to build your skills and career as a laboratory technician across both teaching and research. You’ll be responsible for preparing the laboratory facilities for our diverse student body, involving setting up equipment and practicals, preparing models, order consumables and assisting lecturers as they deliver teaching and you’ll be supporting students as they work through their practical learning activities. There’s lots of variety, lots of interaction with students, academics and research colleagues, with a small amount of processing and administration work.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in science and a practical approach to work. You will be familiar with working in a laboratory environment through either your own education or through practical laboratory-based work experience. Training will be in place to support and develop you in the role. A degree or formal technical qualification is not essential.

In addition to salary, you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement, a great pension, childcare assistance and excellent development opportunities.

If you are enthusiastic, keen to join the University and are motivated to do things differently and open a world of new possibilities, we would be delighted to hear from you.
