About the Position

RMIT University is a long-established provider of applied marketing education and research that has genuine industry impact. The Marketing major is the largest of the 14 majors in the Bachelor of Business program, and the Master of Marketing program at RMIT has been a leader for over 20 years. Next year, we are introducing an innovative new major focusing on marketing technology into the new Bachelor of Commerce program being launched by the University.
As a result, the Marketing Department needs to grow, and we are seeking a number of passionate marketing academics to join our department. You will be joining a group of around 30 academics, but also other Marketing staff based in our Graduate School and Vietnam campuses. The size of the department means mentoring, innovation and professional development opportunities abound.

The Marketing Department is housed within the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing. It is a leader within RMIT and across the discipline internationally, with staff regularly winning both teaching and research awards, leading research centres and contributing to public discourse on key issues. The Department teaches undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Australia, Singapore and online using various teaching modes. The Department also has a strong research profile and an active research culture, with current staff publishing in elite journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, and holding ARC grants. Our research focus is on industry-relevant transformative consumer and brand research, enabled by technology and across digital contexts.

We are seeking innovative marketing academics whose education and research interests lie at the intersection of marketing and business technologies. The role of a Lecturer is to balance the creation and dissemination of knowledge through teaching, research, and industry engagement. The Lecturer will make a significant contribution to the delivery of Marketing programs, and to be actively involved in research, consulting, and other professional activities. This includes engagement with the relevant industry stakeholders, attracting competitive grants, publications in high impact journals and effective supervision of postgraduate research students and postdoctoral research staff.

The Lecturer will assist the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing in maintaining learning and teaching excellence and developing programs, as well as carry out administrative tasks for the School in both its onshore and offshore activities. The Lecturer is expected to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics within teaching, program and research teams, and update colleagues and students on developments in their subject area or specialisation. The Lecturer may be responsible for course coordination.

About You

You are someone who aspires to a career in academia and are looking for a work environment that will support you to develop. You will understand the importance of balancing teaching and research and strive for excellence in both. You will have completed, or be very near completion, of a comprehensive PhD program, and have a clear idea of how you wish to contribute to both marketing academia and practice in future. RMIT values those who can link academic work with the world outside the University and provides support and networking opportunities for those interested in industry engagement and interdisciplinary work.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • PhD in the field of Marketing (those near completion will be considered)
  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing Marketing Department and School research areas, as evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver Marketing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality industry-relevant curriculum or course materials.
  • Ability to undertake course coordination roles, and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
  • Ability to effectively contribute to the supervision of higher degree by research candidates.
  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff, and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
