About the opportunity

The University of Sydney's School of Veterinary Science is seeking an accomplished and respected industry leader to join as a Professor or Associate Professor of Practice in Veterinary Primary Care (small animal). This pivotal role will focus on shaping the next generation of veterinarians, specifically in the field of small animal primary care, where the majority of veterinary graduates will build their careers.

Located within the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (UVTHS) in Camperdown, the primary care team delivers a wide range of general practice services including wellness consultations, vaccinations, preventative health, diagnostic testing, dentistry, and surgical services. The team works collaboratively with specialists and researchers to ensure a comprehensive approach to animal health and welfare, supported by access to state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments.

As the successful candidate, you will bring extensive clinical experience in private practice or a University Teaching Hospital Setting, demonstrating strong leadership and professional standing within the veterinary industry. While an academic background is valued, this role prioritises real-world experience and expertise in primary care veterinary practice. Your ability to lead, mentor, and inspire both students and colleagues will be essential as you contribute to the education of future veterinarians and the ongoing development of our primary care services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and expertise in small animal primary care, ensuring the highest standards of animal health and welfare.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and researchers within The Sydney School of Veterinary Science to offer comprehensive veterinary services.
  • Shape and deliver education and training to veterinary students, with an emphasis on small animal primary care practice.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative learning environment, encouraging excellence in both teaching and clinical practice.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the primary care team, advancing the integration of clinical practice and veterinary education.

About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a veterinarian in NSW.
  • Significant experience as a small animal veterinarian, within private practice or a University Veterinary Teaching Hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership within the veterinary industry, with a proven ability to mentor and guide clinical teams.
  • While a strong academic background is not required, the ability to balance clinical and educational responsibilities is essential.
  • A commitment to excellence in veterinary education and a passion for preparing the next generation of veterinarians for small animal primary care practice.

The term of the appointment is a continuing position on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
