An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Breast Research Group in the University of Southampton’s School of Cancer Sciences. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, confident and motivated individual to join our Breast Research Group to run the day-to-day activities of the Breast Cancer Now-funded CANDO-4 study.

One of our areas of research is the effect of body composition on responses to cancer treatments. CANDO-4 is a multi-centre study that aims to investigate the associations between body composition and treatment toxicities in patients with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer.

Main responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the study operates in accordance with Research Governance and Good Clinical Practice guidelines
  • Supporting other members of the research team, both in Southampton and at the external study sites, including ensuring research teams are trained and supported to successfully deliver the research
  • Overseeing data entry into the electronic database and resolving any issues in a timely manner

This is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in cancer research to develop their expertise and gain valuable experience in managing the day-to-day activities of a cancer research study. The successful candidate must be able to work well independently and as part of a team, have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to manage and prioritise their own workload. Experience working on research studies/clinical trials and knowledge of cancer research is required, and knowledge of body composition and approaches to cancer treatment, desirable. The successful candidate will mostly be required to work on site but some flexible and hybrid working can be considered.

Informal enquiries about the post may be addressed to Professor Ramsey Cutress (R.I.Cutress@soton.ac.uk) or Dr Kesta Durkin (K.L.Durkin@soton.ac.uk).

The University of Southampton is proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and equality of opportunity. They also offer a competitive salary, pension scheme and other benefits. This post is offered on a fixed-term contract until 30/06/2027 in the first instance, with possibility of extension.

A Standard/Enhanced DBS check may be required for this role.
