- This exciting Teaching and Research role is within the Sydney School of Education and Social Work and sits within the Social Work and Policy Studies discipline as a Lecturer (Level B)
- Base Salary Level B $122,830 p.a. – $145,858 p.a. (pro-rata, if applicable), + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
This Lecturer position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). This role focusses on embedding First Nations histories, cultural protocols and ways of doing, being and sharing knowledge into the Faculty's curricula and will provide key leadership in helping the University of Sydney achieve its ambitions under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Plan 2022-2024 and the University's One Sydney, Many People Strategy. They will have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, facilitating and guiding their learning in research, theory and laboratory sessions. They will also have the capacity to build a significant research program over time, obtaining competitive funding as needed to support their research work.
As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a First Nations Australian Lecturer in Social Work who has:
- PhD or a nearly completed PhD in a relevant academic field
- evidence of identifying as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander (preferred)
- knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competence (preferred)
- ability to carry out quality research in social work
- provided outstanding research training (e.g. honours/PhD)
- deliver high quality teaching that effectively engages students in their learning
- a track record of submitting applications for funding for educational research and/or areas relevant to Social Work
- a record of excellent teaching, learning, and assessment practice in a tertiary environment, as evidenced through student and supervisor feedback
- proven experience in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
- the capacity to engage students and enable a supportive, inclusive learning environment
- contributed to governance, leadership, and engagement within the School/University
- a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry or professional institutions partners and stakeholders
- a high level of interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues including professional staff, and foster principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
