About the Job

The Department of Electronic Systems has a vacancy for one researcher in statistical machine learning and signal processing. The successful candidate will be offered a two-year appointment. The position reports to the Head of the Department of Electronic Systems. The workplace will be Trondheim.

Duties of the position

As a valued team member, you will collaborate closely with Prof. Stefan Werner on cutting-edge research projects focusing on artificial intelligence, trustworthy decentralized inference, and innovative machine-learning techniques specifically tailored for emerging communication systems.

We are specifically looking for candidates who possess a deep passion for research and demonstrate the potential to excel in various cutting-edge research areas within emerging IoT/CPS. These areas encompass machine learning for wireless communications, meta-learning for heterogeneous systems, networked federated learning, secure and privacy-preserving machine learning, Byzantine-resilient learning, and robust resource-efficient distributed optimization.

Required selection criteria

We are seeking a highly motivated and independent candidate passionate about contributing to innovative research in their field of expertise. To be considered for the researcher position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Norwegian doctoral degree or a foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD.
  • Have a professionally relevant background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or another relevant discipline.
  • Have a Ph.D. thesis related to statistical machine learning, optimization, signal processing for wireless communications, applied mathematics.
  • Demonstrate substantial research experience documented with peer-reviewed scientific papers in tier-one publications (at least one IEEE transaction paper, preferably IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, IEEE Trans. Signal Process., IEEE Trans. Wireless Commun., or similar).

A good command of the English language (spoken and written) is also required.

Preferred selection criteria

  • A strong interest in learning and performing the tasks of a more senior academic position.
  • Excellent coding skills (MATLAB, Python).
  • Strong background in wireless communications.

We offer

Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position of Reasercher(code 1109) is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 594 500 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU

The position is subject to external funding 

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
