About Us
The School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of six Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. The School unites over 400 experts in women and children’s health, nutritional sciences, population health and the molecular genetics of human disease. Our research links the causes of common health problems to life’s landmark stages, treating life, disease and healthcare as a continuum. We are interdisciplinary by nature and this innovative approach works: 91 per cent of our research submitted to the Subjects Allied to Medicine (Pharmacy, Nutritional Sciences and Women's Health cluster) for REF was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. We use this expertise to teach the next generation of health professionals and research scientists. Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments.
About the role
We are seeking an exceptional academic leader in Rehabilitation and/or Physiotherapy to join the School of Life Course & Population Sciences at King’s College London. The post-holder will lead a vibrant research and education team.
Candidates must demonstrate excellence in conducting innovative and compelling research, and they should have a proven track record of successfully attracting funding, as well as the ambition and potential to secure significant research funding.
You will be an allied health professional or clinician who will collaborate with King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre across academic, clinical, and other partners to develop an agenda for the future of rehabilitation and physiotherapy research and education. Our major healthcare partners include Guy’s and St Thomas’s and King’s College Hospital, and SE London ICB as well as a multitude of other partners. Areas of research interest and strength in the School and Faculty include:
- Rehabilitation & Health Research
- Complex interventions trials in long-term conditions/prevention
- Long-term conditions and multiple mental and physical morbidities (e.g., Stroke, MSK,COPD, falls and frailty)
- Sports science
- Respiratory physiology
- Cardiovascular and muscle physiology
- Developing and implementing methods to evaluate the complexity of system changes in health and social care
- Developing and executing Public Health interventions in multi-ethnic populations
- Health data science
- Inequalities and ethnicity
This is a part time post (up to 17.5 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Grade: Reader
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with valid license to practice or other healthcare professional registered with the relevant professional registration body
- PhD or equivalent qualification in rehabilitation, physiotherapy or a related discipline
- Proven ability to attract competitive research funding
- Portfolio of internationally recognised research in Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy or related disciplines
- Evidence of leadership capability
- Ability to attract and develop talented researchers into the field
- Proven track record in education, showing a commitment to high-quality and innovation evidenced by peer review
- Track record of national and international collaborations
- A track record of supervising PhD’s to completion and post-doctoral mentorship
Desirable criteria
- 5 peer reviewed publications in the last five years, of “world leading“ or ”internationally excellent” quality (with substantive and critical authorship contribution)
- Sufficient grant income with a percentage of salary recovery over the last 5 years to support a team with 2-3 research staff
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines
Grade: Professor
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with valid license to practice or other healthcare professional registered with the relevant professional registration body
- PhD or equivalent qualification in rehabilitation, physiotherapy or a related discipline
- Proven ability to attract programmatic research funding and evidence of grant applications during the previous 3 years
- Substantive portfolio of internationally recognised research in Rehabilitation and/or Physiotherapy
- Evidence of academic leadership and strategic contributions
- Sufficient PI and/or Co-I grant income with a percentage of salary recovery over the last 5 years to support a team of 3-5 research staff
- Significant experience of high-quality and innovative teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Track record of national and international collaborations
- Substantive esteem indicators such as routinely invited to speak at international meetings, chair and organiser of national/international meetings, chairing and serving on professional and scientific grant committees and Editorial Boards
- A track record of supervising PhD students to completion and post-doctoral mentorship
