The Opportunity
Are you an expert in ageing research and passionate about promoting healthy brain ageing and preventing ageing-associated diseases like dementia? Join us at the Healthy Brain Ageing Clinic! Utilise advanced techniques like EEG and TMS to uncover the biological mechanisms of ageing, design and lead lifestyle intervention programs focusing on diet, exercise, and sleep, and contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision. Lead the Healthy Brain Ageing program at the Thompson Institute, overseeing daily operations and setting the scientific direction. Be a part of our dynamic team dedicated to advancing brain health and reducing the impact of dementia.

You will:
- contribute to learning and teaching practices within the Thompson Institute;
- undertake high-impact research;
- supervise honours students and HDR candidates;
- play a part in successful research grant applications; and
- contribute to governance, coordination of and participation in the Thompson Institutes capacity-building activities, and activities that contribute to the student experience.
About you:
Our ideal candidate will bring expertise in the field of ageing research, paired with strong pedagogical skills and excellent communication abilities. You will have a genuine enthusiasm for teaching and learning, prioritising students' needs and employing innovative methods to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. With a comprehensive understanding of pedagogical principles and instructional strategies, you'll utilise effective techniques to enhance student outcomes, maintaining discipline and promoting positivity. Your strengths in assessment and feedback will ensure fair evaluations, helping students progress and identifying areas for improvement. Adaptability and flexibility are key, as you'll tailor your approach to meet diverse learning needs and respond to changing educational trends. A commitment to continuous professional development is essential, as you'll actively seek growth opportunities, attend workshops and conferences, and engage in research to stay at the head of the field.
You will possess:
- completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field or equivalent accreditation and standing;
- proven track record as an effective teacher, the capacity to conceive, develop and deliver higher education curricula and contribute to relevant areas of teaching;
- sound and established track record of research activity commensurate with the level of the position;
- sound leadership contributions and personal qualities that influence the development and maintenance of a positive academic environment which is conducive to high levels of engagement and standards of achievement for both staff and students;
- participation and success in academic administrative functions e.g. program coordination, within a University;
- membership of and sound connections with relevant professional bodies and community groups and/or in professional practice; and
- evidence of participation in academic development activities and the desire to continue to learn and improve as an effective academic.
Desirable
- postgraduate qualifications in higher education.
- formal external and/or internal recognition for excellence in learning and teaching and/or research.
