The College of Health Sciences (CHS) was founded in 2016 following a 30-year success story as a department within various colleges at Qatar University. CHS is the national provider of high-quality health sciences education and research in Qatar and offers undergraduate (BSc) programs in biomedical sciences, human nutrition, physical therapy/physiotherapy, speech and language pathology, and public health, as well as graduate programs in biomedical science (MSc), public health (MPH) and a doctoral (PhD) program. Department Profile:
The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (DRS) was founded in 2018. It offers a 4-year BSc. in Physiotherapy and a BSc. in Speech and Language pathology.
The BSc. Speech and Language pathology program is delivered in English. and the curriculum is innovative and future oriented. The program is the first and only undergraduate program of its kind in Qatar.
The Department has an international faculty and a global perspective.
The Department seeks to appoint one (1) Lecturer/Teaching Assistant to commence their positions in Spring 2025.
Duties & Responsibilities
The appointee will be expected to carry out the following activities:
- Develop and conduct lectures, tutorials and practical teaching sessions and supervise students working in teams in one or more specialized areas of Speech and Language pathology. Candidates who are versatile across content specific areas will be highly considered.
- Supervise & co-ordinate in the practice education of students
- Assist course co-ordinators in following up and grading of student assignments
- Contribute to the stakeholder engagement within the professional community in support of teaching, research and professional development
- Contribute to various committees at the program, College, and University level
- Participate in the research activities of the Department
- Assist in various other tasks related to the development and needs of the Department
Essential qualification and experience
- Be a qualified speech and language pathologist/therapist eligible for registration to practice in her/his country and a member of his/her professional organization
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical practice
- Hold a Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology/Speech Therapy, or equivalent.
- Demonstrates evidence of teaching in the profession for example practice education and/or as part of continuing professional development activities
- Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal skills
- Has very good organizational skills
Note: to be appointed at lecturer level, the candidate must have published 3 papers in peer-reviewed publications.
Desirable skills and experience
- Arabic speaker (preferable)
- Experience in clinical/practice education development, organization and delivery
- Evidence of leadership in the professional community
- International teaching experience including working in culturally diverse environments
- Licensed to practice in Qatar with Department of Healthcare Professions (or eligible to obtain license to practice in Qatar).
