UBC Vancouver’s Faculty of Science is home to over 9,000 undergraduate and 1,600 graduate students studying across a wide range of disciplines and programs. An internationally ranked Faculty, Science boasts 40 Canada Research Chairs, two Canada Excellence Research Chairs, and over $131m in annual research funding. The Faculty’s extensive and growing suite of academic programs has produced two Nobel Laureates, 89 spin off companies, and 6 industrial research training programs. The Faculty of Science brings together a community of students and scholars internationally recognized for their commitment to advancing human knowledge and understanding, through invention, discovery, learning, and innovation.

UBC invites nominations and applications for the role of Dean, Faculty of Science. The incoming Dean will have a record of scholarship consistent with appointment at the rank of Full Professor. They will have a passion for, and interest in, the range of disciplines to be found within the Faculty of Science and will bring both a student focus and a deep commitment to supporting research across the Faculty. Ideally, the Dean will possess considerable experience in academic administration, including successfully managing human, financial, and physical infrastructure resources; a bold vision for, and expertise in, advancing excellence in research, teaching, scholarship, and service; a solid track record in fundraising; and experience in building and strengthening community and industry partnerships. The ideal Dean will have a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigeneity; a consultative, inclusive, and collegial leadership style; a natural service orientation; excellent communication skills; and an open and transparent approach that earns trust and respect from all members of the Science community.

Consideration of candidates for this position will begin in the fall of 2024 with the Dean taking office July 1, 2025. The base salary range for this position is from $320,000 and $380,000.
