Dept of English, Linguistics & Theatre Studies
National University of Singapore
The Department of English, Linguistics and Theatre Studies (https://fass.nus.edu.sg/elts/) at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a Lecturer appointment on the Educator Track Scheme, to begin in July 2025. Applicants should have a PhD in Linguistics and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The purpose of the NUS Educator Track Scheme is to attract, nurture, and retain qualified and effective faculty members who approach teaching as a scholarly practice, and who therefore reflect systematically on their teaching. The Educator Track is a progressive career track (Lecturer > Senior Lecturer > Associate Professor > Professor) prioritizing evidence of sustained impact on student learning and educational leadership. The initial appointment will be made on a 3-year contract.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory general linguistics as well as advanced courses in discourse studies using approaches, for example, from Conversation Analysis, Pragmatics, Systemic Functional Linguistics, Critical Discourse Studies, Corpus-Assisted Discourse Analysis, or Narrative Analysis. The teaching load on the Educator Track is equivalent to a 3:3 load (three courses per semester, totaling six per academic year). There will also be opportunities to supervise student research.
