Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, you will join the research team around Martin Zuschin and assist in research, teaching and administration.
The focus of our research is on Conservation Paleobiology and Stratigraphic Paleobiology, with study areas including the Adriatic Sea, Eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea.

We study modern marine ecosystems and their Neogene and Quaternary fossil record.

Our focus is on benthic ecology, including level-bottom communities and coral reefs.

Our team Historical Ecology and Conservation Paleobiology currently consists of 1 postdoc, 3 preadocs and 2 master students together with technical and administrative staff.

We work at the interface of Marine Ecology, Paleontology and Sedimentology.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of Conservation Paleobiology and Historical Ecology.
  • We expect you to prepare detailed description of your doctoral thesis project (dissertation agreement) in 12-18 months.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion.
  • You hold courses independently or in cooperation with Martin Zuschin within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Paleontology, Marine Biology or Marine Ecology.
  • Experience in academic writing.
  • Academic publications and conference presentations are of advantage.
  • Competence in the taxonomy and / or ecology of benthic marine organisms (e.g., forams, corals, brachiopods, molluscs, vertebrates).
  • Good command of written and spoken English (B2 Level).
  • Competence in multivariate statistics.
  • You should be a team player with high social skills.

Fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 3578,80 (on a full-time basis / 14 times a year) increases if we can credit professional experience.

The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. With appropriate work progress and in mutual agreement, an extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.
